it runs in the family

We're about to head out on an adventure.

Our little hot pocket (a new addition to the nickname list for Gypsy) went to stay with Amanda while Joe and I attend a family reunion. I have never before met, conversed or laid eyes on anyone on Joe's dad's side of the family. Today will be full of meet and greets and "OH, you're John's son!" since Joe says he has never met more than half of these people either.

We do know that there will be a lot of barbeque (yum!), canoes and other activities, and - this is the best part - two bunk rooms (one for the women and one for the men). At least I will know Joe's mom.... but who knows who I may be sleeping next to. :)

I'll let Joe post when we come home so you can get his unique perspective. I'll also try to document this with some pictures. Although, I'm not the best at taking pictures of people I don't know.

Eeyore's Birthday Party

I wanted to post about this fun festival before the info becomes a dull memory. Last Saturday, Joe and I went to Eeyore's Birthday Party in Pease Park with the dog and some friends. It is an annual event in Austin and this year was the 45th anniversary. Originally started to honor the start of Spring, it's known for large drum circles, crazy costumes and occasional recreational drug use. It was a ton of fun to wear my black angel wings again and just to see so many fun-loving jugglers, dancers, crazy Austinites... I love where I live!

First of many (I hope)

This is my first post. I tried this once before and it didn't work out too well. Not enough time and too much negative stuff going on that it was a venting zone rather than a compilation of the good and the bad and the weird. I have been contemplating starting up a blog again for a while now, because Joe and I seem to always find fun and interesting things to do here in Austin. I want to share them with anyone out there that wants to listen. Besides our adventures, which usually involve food, festivals or bars, I will probably include recipes (I love to cook), stuff about my green thumb and what is blooming or growing on my porch, and updates on Gypsy, the other being that shares our apartment space. See below.

Gypsy

Although this blog reflects the activities in all three of our lives, Emily (me) will be the primary author. Joe kept a livejournal for the entirety of his college life, so maybe he will want to contribute occasionally. I look forward to this new addition to my daily routine and I welcome any comments, suggestions or opinions.
